FAQ
Do you offer wholesale?
Not right now. Ontario’s Milk Act requires us to sell directly to the end consumer. Once we are producing in a provincially licensed dairy facility, wholesale will become possible.
Where is your farm?
We live in rurally, just outside of Colborne, but not on a farm. Thanks to 2019 updates to the Milk Act, we can make butter in a certified commercial kitchen using pasteurized Ontario cream.
Where do you source your cream?
We work with Hewitt’s Dairy for pure Ontario cream.
What makes Lofty Butter different?
Time, care, and flavour. We churn in small batches using fermented cream, which creates a butter that is tangy, smooth, and virtually lactose-free. It also has a higher smoke point, making it just as delicious in the pan as it is smothered on bread.
Our butter is nothing like what you find at the grocery store. It reflects the craft of dairy that would have been enjoyed generations ago on grandma’s farm. We also create seasonal and feature flavours, partnering with local farms and using only the highest quality ingredients to make something truly special.
Is your buttermilk the same as store-bought?
No. Ours is the natural byproduct of making butter, so it is thick, tangy, and sometimes has flecks of butter inside. Store-bought buttermilk is cultured skim milk with thickeners and preservatives.
How should I store butter?
Keep it in a sealed dish in your fridge to protect it from air and odours. Store it on the shelf and not in the door, as the temperature fluctuates and is often higher in the door. Our butter can also be frozen for up to nine months if wrapped and stored in a freezer bag.
