ABOUT US

We are Chad & Marie Miller, the business partners and life partners behind Lofty Butter Company. 

We aren't ones for doing things the conventional way... what seems like just a few short years ago (over six years has flown by already!), our dream began with a wedding, a baby (Tessa), and a move to Northumberland County, all in just 8 short weeks.

In March of 2020 we launched what was supposed to be a farmers' market circuit business, Lofty Butter Company. With our first in-person sale scheduled for March 13 at a local Maple Syrup Festival, we all know what also was announced that day... 

The next few years saw pivot after pivot. We became an online shop with local delivery and pick-up partner locations across the region. We opened a brick-and-mortar retail storefront in 2021. We faced tragedy and loss, growth and even added a new baby butter ball to the Miller family in November 2023 (Eadie). 

After investing in a commercial butterchurn in June 2024, we are once again shaking things up. With larger production ability, we decided to close down our retail shop and focus again on growing our butter business. 

We hope to see you at a market across Ontario soon, and if you're ever in Colborne, we're always happy to welcome people at our production location. Just connect with us and we'll do our best to make it happen!

Chad is a serial entrepreneur and the driving force that has brought to life this incredible dream. His background is varied, from sales jobs to physically demanding labour to creative pursuits. He actually used to have a photo studio just across the road from where Lofty Butter Company now stands in Colborne, Ontario! He's a tinkerer and can fix almost anything, loves to fish, and is the main production hand behind our Lofty Butter products. 

My (Marie's) background is in Business Administration and I've always dreamed of working in the food industry but didn't know how to make it happen. I've managed not-for-profit offices, spent a time in HR, worked with tourism partners through funding programs and experience development, and volunteered in different social sectors. I love to write, do anything to avoid bookkeeping, and be creative - mostly with butter these days.

Tessa, well, she makes a great taste-tester and runs the show. You'll find her jumping on the trampoline, running circles around us, eating butter by the spoonful, and correcting your choice of words. 

Eadie is the newest addition to the fam. She likes to snuggle all night and, umm, snuggle all day, too. She makes it hard for me to get anything done around here, but at least she's cute.
